USC Gould School of Law is broadening its educational programs in mediation, arbitration and negotiation with the introduction of an online certificate in Dispute Resolution. This certificate will enable lawyers and non-lawyer professionals to advance their skills in resolving legal conflicts outside of litigation and in the workplace.

Through the new online specialization, USC Gould prepares graduates to meaningfully participate in mediation and arbitration matters with an understanding of practical concepts, skills and techniques behind effective dispute resolution. Graduates will also learn critical analysis and problem-solving skills that will be supported by coursework in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) law and topics such as ethics, employment mediation, contemporary human resources issues and negotiation skills. This certificate marks the 12th specialization available to USC Gould online students.

“By expanding our dispute resolution education, we strengthen our commitment to educating transformative problem-solvers,” says USC Gould Dean Franita Tolson. “Our online programming continuously provides flexible training in key areas of law, tailored to meet diverse career needs and goals. We are thrilled to launch this certificate, which adds to the innovative online specializations offered at Gould.”

The online Dispute Resolution certificate is a 12-unit program – taken independently or concurrently with USC Gould’s Online Master of Laws (LLM) or Online Master of Studies in Law (MSL) – that provides students with a competitive edge in mediation, arbitration, negotiations and human resources. When taken concurrently with one of our online master’s degrees, the certificate specialization can be earned at no additional cost.

USC Gould’s online courses are designed to foster interaction among students and provide a convenient, flexible way to pursue advanced training while meeting the demands of working professionals. The certificate is open to anyone with a bachelor’s degree, and can be earned in as few as three semesters.
