USC Law Holds Symposium on “Exploiting and Surviving the Winds of Change” in the Housing Crisis, Thursday, April 24

WHAT: USC Gould School of Law is bringing together the real estate industry’s top legal experts, housing professionals and business practitioners for a one day symposium, “Exploiting and Surviving the Winds of Change.”

The event will spotlight key legal and business issues in capital markets and real estate; growth and economic sustainability; the new environment for equity investors and the economic health of Southern California’s ethnic communities, among others.

WHO: The event will feature renowned scholars and nationally known real estate experts, including the luncheon keynote speaker, Joel Kotkin, an authority on urban real estate demographics, in a session moderated by Gail Goldberg, the Los Angeles Director of Planning.

USC Law Prof. George Lefcoe will moderate a discussion on “Navigating Through the Crisis: Capital Markets and Real Estate” With public market experts Jonathan Klein of Fortress Investment Group; Ronald Kravit of Cerberus Real Estate Capital Management; Ethan Penner of Pacific Star Capital and Michael Van Konynenberg of Eastdil Secured. Los Angeles City Councilman Eric Garcetti will serve on the panel discussion “The Silver Lining in the Housing Storm” with Randall Lewis of the homebuilder Lewis Group of Companies, Larry Kosmont of Kosmont Companies and Jerome Snyder of J.H. Snyder.

Gregory Schultz of First American Title Insurance will moderate a panel on “Stories of Plan B for Real Estate Players in a Changing Economy” featuring a wide-ranging panel, which will focus on how the economic environment is shaping real estate finance, private equity investment, real estate development and affordable housing. Glenn Sonnenberg will moderate a discussion on “The New Market Realities of Commercial Finance” and Timi Anyon Hallem of Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, will moderate “Investment in Ethnic Communities: A Compelling Opportunity for New Investment.”
