Capron is a globally recognized expert in health policy and medical ethics

“This is not just a prestigious honor, but also very well deserved,” wrote Dean Andrew Guzman. “Alex has been not only a leading scholar in the field of health care law and ethics, but also a consistent and diligent contributor to the professional field, the University and the law school. Both his teaching and service have been recognized by his many awards, including but not limited to the Distinguished Faculty Service Award (2012) and the Walter Wolf Award for Defense and Advocacy of Academic Freedom (2016).”
Among his many contributions and notable work, Capron co-founded USC’s Pacific Center for Health Policy and Ethics, a campus-wide interdisciplinary research and education center. He also served as director of Ethics, Trade, Human Rights and Health Law at the World Health Organization in Geneva from 2003-2006.
Guzman added: “Gould has been immensely lucky to have had Alex on the faculty since 1985, and I could not be happier that the University has chosen to honor Alex’s time and contributions with an emeritus award.”
