USC Gould Alumni Association Hosts Events That Span the U.S.

The Trojan Family Network is not limited to Southern California. Over the past six months, several of the USC Gould Alumni Association's regional committees have hosted events in cities across the United States, providing alumni with excellent opportunities to meet and reconnect with other Trojans and current students.

USC Gould Alumni Association — Chicago hosted their inaugural event, a happy hour mixer on June 28. Gould alumni from the Windy City gathered to enjoy food, drinks, and the company of fellow Trojans. Committee members welcome ideas for future events from Chicago alumni at [email protected].

On Aug. 3, USC Gould Alumni Association — Los Angeles held a networking mixer with the Beverly Hills Bar Association (BHBA). The event brought together more than 100 (Gould or total # of guests?) Gould alumni to network with attorneys from the BHBA. The Committee also joined the USC Alumni Association for "USC Night at the Hollywood Bowl: John Williams" on Sept. 3. In addition, they held a 'Breakfast with the Faculty' on Oct. 3 with Professor Michael Chasalow, director of the USC Gould Small Business Clinic.

USC Gould Alumni Association — New York hosted its first alumni event on June 14 at USC's New York City offices overlooking Central Park. The event provided an opportunity for local alumni to welcome the law school's summer associates to the Big Apple and connect with other alumni. Special thanks to USC's New York office team! On June 20, USC Gould Alumni Association — San Francisco hosted a happy hour for alumni to catch up and welcome USC students in the Bay Area for the summer. Following the success of that event, the Committee hosted a museum tour and lunch at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art on Aug. 26. And on Dec. 13, the Committee hosted a 'Welcome to the Bar/Holiday Mixer' for alumni new and old. Alumni Association Chair Eric Cheng has promised many more events for 2018.

June 14 was an exciting day for USC students in Washington, D.C. As part of Career Services 'SC in DC externship program, Susan Bayh JD '84 organized a lunch in the Senate dining room, where she introduced seven USC students to Senators Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker, Al Franken and Chuck Schumer. As the director of SC in DC, Bayh frequently visits the law school to help identify opportunities for our students interested in working in D.C. This summer students worked at the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, at the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia, as well as at other agencies and law firms in the Capitol. Later that evening, Daron Watts JD '94 and the USC Gould Alumni Association — Washington, D.C. hosted a rooftop reception for alumni and students at Sidley Austin's Washington, D.C. office. This event included a wide range of influential alumni.

"The 'SC in DC' program connects students to local USC alumni from many different areas within the field of law," noted Bayh. "Although we are based in Washington, D.C., the program's focus involves much more than just government roles. Alumni in advocacy positions, finance, business and even professional sports help to expose students to career possibilities across industries and offer them the opportunity to gain insightful mentors in their areas of interest."
