Armour, Kleinbard and Saks are participating in April 18 and 19 event
Three USC Gould professors, including Elyn Saks, Jody Armour and Edward Kleinbard, are headlining the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books at USC on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19.
Elyn Saks, author of The Center Cannot Hold: My Journey Through Madness, is participating in a conversation moderated by science writer and USC journalism professor K.C. Cole. Also on panel are Clifford Johnson, USC physics and astronomy professor, and Pat Levitt, USC neuro genetics professor. The panel discussion, “Grasping the Ineffable: On Science and Health” will begin at 3:00 p.m. at Wallis Annenberg Hall and will require a free ticket available either in advance at the Festival of Books website or on-site at a festival ticketing booth.
Also on Saturday, Edward Kleinbard, author of We Are Better Than This: How Government Should Spend Our Money, will appear on a panel moderated by Los Angeles Times columnist Steve Lopez. He joins political scientist Robert D. Putnam and Rolling Stone contributor/author Matt Taibbi for a discussion on “America's Rich & Poor: Looking at the Financial Gap.” The conversation will take place at 3:30 p.m. at Town & Gown and will also require a free ticket.
On Sunday, Jody Armour, author of Negrophobia and Reasonable Racism, will discuss “Being Black: Race and Justice in the U.S.” with USC social work professor Terence Fitzgerald and USC American studies and ethnicity professor Shana Redmond. The discussion will be moderated by writer and USC Provost's Fellow Robin Coste Lewis. The discussion will begin at 1:30 p.m. at Wallis Annenberg Hall and will require a free ticket.
