Equity and the the Legal and Social Determinants of Health LAW-698

The COVID-19 pandemic put a spotlight on numerous health disparities. Pandemic examples involve racially and economically disparate statistics, including: morbidity and mortality; access to vaccinations; income, food and housing insecurity; domestic violence; and other social determinants of health. This interdisciplinary course explores how legal, social, racial,  cultural and economic factors contribute to health disparities and role that physicians and lawyers can play in advocating for individuals as well as systemic policy changes to promote health equity. Practicing attorneys at Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County teach the course, with particular focus on working in a Medical Legal Community Partnership setting.
