Course Description

Mental Health Law will involve studying many of the important issues at the intersection of law and psychology/psychiatry, both civil and criminal. On the civil side we will look at such issues as the nature of mental illness, civil commitment, right to refuse treatment, and the Americans with Disabilities Act. On the criminal side we will look at such issues as the insanity defense, competency to stand trial, and competency to be executed.
