This course will review the basics of Civil Procedure, including subject matter jurisdiction and personal jurisdiction. The course will cover the basics of filing a lawsuit and adding claims and parties to a lawsuit. The class will examine the basic methods of gathering evidence. The course will review how cases are resolved through settlement, dismissal, summary judgment and trial. The course will discuss jury selection and the use of juries. The course will conclude by reviewing the appellate process and the use of a judgment in subsequent litigation.
CR/D/F is available.
A variety of in-class exercises will be employed to help students understand the application of the rules to concrete factual situations.
There will be an open book final examination.
