Course Description

This is a survey course of First Amendment protections for free speech, free press, and free exercise of religion, and safeguards against government establishment of religion. The class will include an analysis of key cases, discussions of contemporary First Amendment controversies, and litigating First Amendment-focused media law in the heartland of content-creation, Hollywood and Silicon Valley.  Students who are verbally active, thoughtful, and courteous to others will be given participation points of up to 10 points.  We will also have casual class exercises to bring the law to life.
