Intellectual Property (LLM Only) (Fall 2019)

Course Description

This is an introductory course on the basics of United States intellectual property (IP) law, including copyright, trademark, patents, trade secrets, rights of publicity, and other related rights.  It will cover the core doctrine needed to practice in each area and briefly explores the policies that underlie or are in tension with that doctrine.  It is intended both for students who want a single-course overview of IP is well as students who intend to pursue a career practicing one or more areas of IP law.  Readings will focus on statues and case law, which will be further explained and discussed using examples in class.  No technical background is required, and class participation is encouraged.
